A native of southern California, Dr. Barranco moved to Phoenix in 1989 from The University of Pennsylvania. Before joining the Barrow Neurological Institute and BNA in 2000, he was the Chairman of Neurosurgery at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. Barranco is first and foremost a clinical specialist. He specializes in the neurosurgical treatment of brain tumors, pituitary tumors, spinal disorders and stereotactic radiosurgery (GammaKnife and CyberKnife).

In addition to his current position, Dr. Barranco is the Regional Medical Director of Neurosurgery for Banner Health. Since his arrival in Phoenix, he has consistently been listed among Arizona’s Top Doctors.

Married for over twenty-five years, Dr. Barranco has three children. Road trips and exploring the Southwest are favorite family pastimes. His other passions include fishing, houseboating, reading and sports. Weekends typically find him at one of his children’s sporting events or with them in the stands at a Cardinals, Diamondbacks, or Suns game.
