|Dr. Kris Smith specializes in the comprehensive management of brain tumors and the surgical treatment of epilepsy. He utilizes advanced techniques including stereotaxis, endoscopy, computer image guidance, brain mapping, deep brain stimulation, depth and grid electrodes, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.
Dr. Smith emphasizes minimally invasive surgical approaches, which result in less patient discomfort and lower risks of complications. However, he strongly believes in aggressive surgical resection of tumors and epileptogenic lesions.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nevada, School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada. His medical training includes a residency program with Phoenix Integrated Surgical and Barrow Neurological Institute.
He undertook the Leksell Gamma Knife Training Course at The Karolinska Gamma Knife Center, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. He also studied Preceptorship under L.Dade Lunsford, M.D. at the University of Pittsburgh, Gamma Knife Training.
Dr. Smith is presently the Director, Gamma Knife Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute.
When he has leisure time, Dr. Smith enjoys tennis and water skiing. Once a champion skier, his passion is skiing.
