| Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery Cerebrovascular/skull base procedures provide surgical treatment of vascular lesions (aneurysms, AVMs), carotid disease, and tumors that invade or involve the skull base (acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, epidermoids, etc). Spinal Disorders BNA neurosurgeons offer various surgical treatments for spinal disorder including degenerative and traumatic injuries. Treatments include decompression, reconstruction and instrumentation. Anterior, posterior and endoscopic approaches are also used. Spinal arteriovenous malformations are treated using a team approach consisting of interventional radiologists, vascular neurosurgeons, and spine specialists. Endovascular Surgery Endovascular surgery is an innovative, less invasive procedure used to treat problems affecting the blood vessels, such as an aneurysm. An alternative to open surgery, endovascular surgery offers many advantages, including a shorter recovery period, less discomfort, local or regional anesthesia instead of general anesthesia, smaller incisions, less stress on the heart and fewer risks for patients with other medical conditions. Stereotactic Radiosurgery Stereotactic radiosurgery is used to treat specific types of tumors, arteriovenous malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia, using precisely focused beams of radiation to remove unhealthy tissue from the brain. Treatments utilized by the BNA physicians include CyberKnife and Gamma Knife. Learn more about clinical trials at BNA |
Other specialties include: Epilepsy Comprehensive treatment of the epileptic patient includes surgical treatments for primary epilepsy or tumor-related epilepsy. Minimally invasive techniques are used. Parkinson's Disease BNA's surgical management of Parkinson's disease includes pallidotomies, thalamotomies, and stimulators. Pituitary Tumors BNA physicians evaluate and treat patients who are suffering from pituitary tumors. We have more experience in treating pituitary disorders in our patients than any other medical center in the Southwest. Hyperhidrosis In some people, the nerves, involuntarily controlled by the Sympathetic Nervous System, can become overactive and cause extreme sweating, a condition known as hyperhidrosis. BNA physicians are able to eliminate hyperhidrosis through a surgical procedure called a thorascopic sympathectomy. Pain Management Managing your pain is an important part of the healing process. At BNA, we offer pain management options that involve an integrated approach provided by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals. Our services could include assessment of your pain, a program of physical therapy, pain medication, injections and surgical intervention. Physical Therapy The goal for physical therapy at BNA is to positively impact one's quality of life and to restore maximum health to include the prevention of recurrence. We provide both medical and rehabilitation services for patients with spinal and musculoskeletal problems. Imaging Beginning in March, 2009, BNA will offer imaging services at our new facility on 3rd Avenue. Patients will have scans made on the most technically advanced equipment, and the images will be read and interpreted by neuro-radiologists. |
